Happy New Year
I always find the end of the calendar year is a great time for personal reflection. Did I achieve all of the things I set out to? Did I get as far as I intended? Did I make the impact or the progress, that I wanted to?
There are even more reasons to do the exercise this year. It is not only the end of a year, but the end of a decade and if you live in the UK it is the end of an era. The December election must surely mean that the whole Brexit fiasco can now be resolved and we can face the future with at least some more stability.
One of the main reasons for the self reflection is that it allows us to take stock and refocus for the coming year / decade / period and reset our goals and targets.
I am sure that you will have done this over the holidays and I just wanted to remind you of the following three truths.
1. If you don’t know where you are going you will likely end up somewhere else. The clearer you can articulate and describe your destination the greater chance you have of arriving there.
2. No matter how good the last year was, if you simply redo what you did, the coming year will be no better. You will, at best , have the same results. So what are you going to do differently to have (even) better results in the coming year? Remember if you aren’t moving forwards you will actually be moving backwards as others over take you.
3. Success comes not simply as a result of the knowledge you have, or the skills you have developed but from who you have become, so who or what do you want to have become in the next year or the next decade? Remember the words of Jim Rohn when he said “Your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development.”
Be deliberately conscious about how you are going to develop yourself in the coming period in order to achieve what you want to achieve. If you need any help please contact us at www.kinnery.co.uk
