What is leadership? It isnt what we once might have thought it was. It isnt the heroic, knight in shining armour, riding into the mess to sort everything out type of behaviour that heroic novels are often based upon.
Militaristic, command and control leadership is an anachronism. Making the transition from the old style of leadership to a new one is a challenge for top management at every organisation.
The most any leader can do is shape an environment that allows employees to fulfil the goals of the business, and by environment I am referring to a psychological as well as a cultural and physical environment.
Coaching is not about giving people the answers. It is not about a transfer of knowledge or instructing people what to do. It is about helping people find their own solutions which will allow them to think and perform at a higher level. It is about providing a safe environment, yes cultural, physical and physical, in which to do that.
People don’t like being taught, but we love to learn.

There are lots of challenges in the world but a business that is run well can benefit the world more than almost anything else, creating purpose, dignity, and wealth in honest and worthwhile work, but it is a competitive place in which to thrive.
