Scaling Up

Scaling up is a specific process that is applied to high growth businesses.

The Scale Up institute defines a Scale Up business as one that can grow by at least 20% each year for at least 3 years – meaning it doubles in size every 3 to 4 years. This is rated as significant and sustainable growth.

If this is what you believe your business is capable of, then get in touch. As a certified Scaling Up Rockefeller Habits coach, I will show you how to implement these routines in your business and optimise the four key areas of focus – People, Strategy, Execution and Cash.

If your business goals are stretching and you want to achieve sustained growth, you probably won’t achieve it by continuing to do ‘business as usual’.

If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ve always get what you’ve always got, unless things change. The Scale Up process creates positive change.

It’s not a matter of doing more of the same thing and expecting different results. To achieve 20% growth each year your business needs to scale up to handle the challenges of this kind of expansion – which requires dramatic change.

It requires transformation.

So how do you transform the way you do business so that your company can scale up and have the impact you want it to have?

  • ASSESS:  Before you can grow your company, you need to understand your current situation. You need to assess your leadership, your people, your strategy, your execution, and your cash situation. Then you’ll have the data you need to move forward.
  • ALIGN:  It’s great to have big goals for your company, but to succeed you’ll need to make sure your leadership, people, strategy, execution, cash management – and even your business model, are aligned with your ambitious goals.
  • PLAN:  Nothing happens without a good plan but there’s more than one kind. You may have a long-range plan for achieving your goals, but you’ll also need short-term and intermediate plans to help you get there.
  • EXECUTE:  Even the best plans won’t help you achieve unless they’re actually being executed, so you must be able to measure the driving activities that lead to success. You need the right metrics in place to know you’re making the kind of progress you want to make.
  • ACCELERATE:  It’s important that you and your leadership team are continually improving your personal leadership skills so you can handle the challenges of dramatic growth. There is no coasting when you need to lead your business forward and you can’t assume the skills that got you to where you are will take you to where you want to go.
  • TRANSFORM:  If you’re committed to these things and disciplined in your pursuit of them, your business will be transformed. But it’s important to understand this is not a one-off event. To keep growing and enjoying success is an on-going process.

My Scaling Up colleagues and I have coached thousands of companies through this process.
